Changes to rule 164 EPC: unity of invention and further searches

From 1 November 2014 the European Patent Office will allow additional searches for European regional phase patent applications (Euro-PCT applications) that are found to lack unity of invention.

European Patent Office official fees increase from 1 April 2014

From 1 April 2014 most official fees payable in respect of European patent applications will increase. Fees paid before 1 April can be paid at the current rate.

EPO to introduce additional fees for filing divisional patent applications

The EPO has amended Rules 36, 38 and 135 EPC which deal with the requirements for filing divisional patent applications. This will enter into force on 1st April 2014.

Patents fast-track via new Global Patent Prosecution Highway

The Global Patent Prosecution Highway (GPPH) launched on 6 January 2014. The GPPH is a pilot scheme between 17 participating national and regional patent offices.
