Ethiopia implements new trade mark law

On 24 December 2012 a new trade mark law was implemented in Ethiopia. As a result of the new law steps will need to be taken in respect of trade marks that were registered in Ethiopia prior to this date.

Third-party observations now possible for international patent applications

It is now possible to file third-party observations during the International phase of the so-called PCT application. This can result in the scope of protection of a patent granted being limited or a patent being refused or the application being abandoned by the proprietor.

Mexico joins the Madrid Protocol

On 19 November 2012 Mexico became the latest country to accede to the Madrid Protocol governing the International Registration of trade marks.
