
Richard Hill has an honours degree in pure and applied physics from the University of Manchester and is a Chartered Physicist and Member of the Institute of Physics. Richard joined Wilson Gunn in 1988 and is qualified as a Chartered and European Patent Attorney and a European Trademark and Design Attorney. Richard became a Partner in 2001. Richard's practice covers a range of mechanical, electrical, electronic and software technologies as well as a significant amount of trade mark and design work. He has considerable experience in contentious and adversarial matters, having personally appeared on behalf of clients at first instance before the Registrar of Trade Marks and on appeal to the Appointed Person, as well as before the Examining Division, Opposition Division and Technical Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office. Richard has also instructed Counsel directly in a number of cases before the UK Patents Court and also the Court of Appeal. He is a tutor for the Robert Schuman University of Strasbourg training course for European Patent Attorneys and has lectured on the Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law course at Manchester University.
